shout out to Earthsave Canada

Just wanted to share my appreciation for a group located in Vancouver, BC, which is dedicated to promoting vegetarianism and increasing awareness of the environmental and health consequences of eating and using animal products.

From their e-mail list I get a weekly newsletter with a roundup of current news articles, meet-ups and dine-outs for those who live in the local area, and free vegan recipes.  To be honest the article links provide the inspiration for many of my blog posts, and I’m grateful that someone is doing the work to keep current on issues like tar sands, huge slashes to Canada’s environmental assessment agency, and how to help get aid to people affected by famine in the Horn of Africa.  Those all from the latest newsletter; subjects explored in previous issues include the toll of commercial fisheries on the world’s oceans, the environmental impact of farmed animals, and farmer suicide in India resulting from crushing debt to GMO seed peddlers.

If you care about the environment, and are interested in the connections between that and diet, signing up for the Earthsave Canada newsletter would be a good way to keep in touch with some of the issues involved.  Though specific to Canada, the newsletter has enough international focus to make it relevant to readers everywhere.  Or even if you want links to some good vegan recipes: they link to a great food blog called “Vegan Mischief“; a gluten-free vegan blogger; and to those folks who did the “Betty Crocker Project” – converting old 1950′s processed foods into vegan recipes (!)
