It’s long past time for me to do a little housekeeping on this blog (and computer!), including giving the latest round-up of interesting websites I’ve come across recently, and updating the Blogroll on the right-hand side of the page, there.

Looks like you have been doing a lot of internet searching. I’ll make sure to come back and look through the links on a rainy afternoon, probably tomorrow knowing the terrible British weather!!

    Some I’d add on:

    Transition Culture: http://transitionus.org/ and http://transitionculture.org/
This goes past the theoretical, providing day-to-day operation instructions for a successful energy descent society. Transition Towns are up and running right now in several countries, including the US.

    New Economics: http://www.neweconomics.org/ and http://neweconomicsinstitute.org/
Bobby Kennedy famously noted back in 1968 that GNP was not the best measure of a society’s success, but it (as GDP) is still used today. GDP does not measure whether the people experience happiness, just whether corporations make profits. The NEF and NEI propose a new economic model in which the things that really matter to us are our measure of success, and which acknowledges that infinite growth simply is not possible in a finite world.

    Time Banks: http://timebanks.org/
This economy means lots of people are having trouble paying. But what if you could pay with a skill? Contribute some time of your skill; withdraw some time of someone else’s skill. Great idea and going strong in lots of cities already.

    • Thank you Rob!

I love community currency such as the Time Banks model you mentioned! Thanks for bringing it in to the discussion! Currently, while not enrolled in any official local currency, we have been doing a lot of skill-sharing and bartering with our neighbors, exchanging baked goods and fresh produce for use of chainsaws, machinery, materials and tools. It’s wonderful, and absolutely necessary in our financial situation.

Appreciate the economic analysis in your New Economics links, and the practical approach in the Transition Towns information!
