“No well-travelled roads lead between man and animals, but the distance is short. Evolution is not so much a ladder as an entire playground. A number of communal spirits romp or grieve on the earth, in different guises of fur or flesh or feathers. To be born inside a random human womb and inhabit for a little while the erect rib cage is possibly no better and not much different than playing the game inside eagle wings or a dolphin’s slippery chest.”
Anita Nygaard, Earthclock

“The beauty and genius of a work of art may be reconceived, though its first material expression be destroyed; a vanished harmony may yet again inspire the composer; but when the last individual of a race of living things breathes no more, another heaven and another earth must pass before such a one can be again.”
William Beebe, 1906

“We can re-invent civil disobedience in a million different ways … The corporate revolution will collapse if we refuse to buy what they are selling – their ideas, their version of history, their wars, their weapons, their notion of inevitability. Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them. Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”

“Guilt is a fantastic tool for keeping women in their place. It is a form of internalized oppression that serves to maintain the status quo. I realized that if I continued to wallow in my own guilt instead of examining its voice within me, I would forever be ineffective at doing the work I am best at – and which I love the most. How could this possibly help me, or anyone else? When I reclaimed my work as political and let go of guilt, I broke free from a set of health-destroying beliefs. Very few in this culture are free from guilt, since it is part of the self-centredness of the addictive system.”

“As a lesbian I shun assimilation, abhor ‘tolerance.’ Assimilation is only as good as the people in power at any given moment. Tolerance is mistaken – dangerously – for justice. Disabled, I also shun these things. Experience has taught me we must protect ourselves not with silence and invisibility but with resounding presence.”
-Victoria Brownworth

“The desexualizing of homosexuality is a short-sighted strategy in the gay movement’s struggle for civil rights protections. In the end, if we are to win ‘tolerance’ and ‘acceptance’ only by agreeing to silence our joy of sex, then the revolution will have failed. Homophobia is closely linked to erotophobia. What frightens, enrages, and confuses our enemies is not our love of those of the same gender or sex, but the sexual expression of that love or lust. There are no laws against emotional love between those of the same sex, only against fucking them. If we are to truly change society, we must combat the discomfort, fear, and confusion about sex, sexuality and gender that is ultimately at the root not only of the oppression of queers, but of women as well.”

“You’re neither unnatural, nor abominable, nor mad; you’re as much a part of what people call nature as anyone else; only you’re unexplained as yet — you’ve not got your niche in creation.”

“A culture that doesn’t care for its children – as the U.S. by and large does not, despite all the profamily, prochild rhetoric – suffers the social consequences of young adults who are alienated and depressed.”

“Feminism has fought no wars. It has killed no opponents. It has set up no concentration camps, starved no enemies, practiced no cruelties. Its battles have been for education, for the vote, for better working conditions . . . for safety on the streets . . . for child care, for social welfare . . . for rape crisis centers, women’s refuges, reforms in the laws. This is probably the cutest spam comment I’ve received. I decided to put it up … after removing the external links, of course!
“Portly quantities”? “Experts in every gist of the word”? Sheer poetry. I love it.

I recently joined up with veganactivist.wordpress.com.
I’m expecting to go looking about somewhat and meet fascinating people and learn a couple of points.
I’m hoping this post didn’t find itself in a bad area. I’m hoping you’ll forgive me if it does.

I love that you posted the spam! Poetry in spam seems to me affirmation of a conscious Universe who happens to have a slightly twisted sense of humor
I know! I think it’s kind of wonderful.
My boyfriend and I landlord parties at our house at least promptly a month, and then it抯 condensed to protect conversations going on recompense the entire night. Our friends are from different walks of life afterall, and since we into up lovely often, every so often conversations can ladder print dry. Activities all things considered bond us closer anyway, and most recently we bought the 22-in-1 Olympic Games after our Wii at about, so that they can play with it after dinner. It used to be that we would play Wii Sports, but with just 4 basic games, things became dry after a while. With these 22 simulation games, joined vespers all the time is not at any time enough. So we went on to procure the 22-in-1 Olympics Games Controller Mega Bunch in place of Wii from [], which includes a ping pong paddle, a gun, a tennis racket, and others you can see from the pictures I uploaded. We fair-minded bought it and not too sure whether only Mega Pack is enough. If we need another one, we抣l definitely order another anybody from [], as we set up this site to have the trounce price and widest range of things, exceptionally Wii Accessories.
The Wii Olympic Games Controller Mega Accumulation for the sake of Wii comes with tennis cry, golf fraternity, baseball bat, ping-pong paddles, and a billiard pool stick. I couldn抰 on this marvellous tilt on Amazon! Looks like they抮e in of review, but [] has plenty after sure. With so various games on this 22-in-1 olympic games gel, there抯 headed to be a event quest of each in the party. Wii has, from the birth farm infrequently, provided home-hosted parties a lot of relief to alert for your friends play. Moreover, Wii games employment as weighty ice-breakers too, as strangers who seize teamed up fashion team bonds musical quick. From my experience in hosting house parties, at least. There抯 again a limit to those free-ended conversations aka 揷ocktail hour? in front of you start panicking at needing something that keeps guests entertained. As a rule that抯 a motion picture, games, or Wii games. In the recent it may be showing your guests babyhood pictures of you, but that gets dead, actually. Conspicuously if half your guests don抰 know you that well.
My affair with [] has been comely salutary as a consequence far, as it抯 cosy to enjoin and I net the orders on time. Prices also be inclined to be move than other sites. Advantage noiseless, things may not balance out be accessible on other sites. Take this Wii Olympic Games Mega Bale for example. It抯 not readily obtainable on Amazon! Retail shops handle it at an unwarranted price, since they fool to settle for rip etc. What I normally do is go to the retail shops and try the note I miss to buy. I try out them off, appeal to questions, but tell them I scarcity to think there it. Then I search in behalf of the work online and kind it online, sans all the unexpectedly cost from their charter out etc. I抦 planning to buy more Wii Accessories from [] not only to receive my guests, but in support of my own pleasure. Perhaps a guitar towards Wii Guitar Hero? I cogitate on Wii games helps a lot when I抦 bored or when my boyfriend is too baroque to shell out prematurely with me. I can spend the whole period playing Wii and it抯 been proven! When I senior got the Wii, I emit a week playing the unscathed game of Mario Galaxy and I really loved it! Too bad I had to go to inflame during the epoch or else I抦 steadfast it would have felt great playing cranny of the day.
More spam poetry.

LOVE IT.
Considerable web site! I really surrender at this point the many era! Ton away increase the superb project!
I absolutely love that quote about civil disobedience. It’s something I wish the whole entire society would realize. Explains the government head on. Also, I like the one about our children. I’m in high school so I see the depression constantly, and sometimes, I live in it, too. Our world is so cruel.
Thanks for sharing these!
Hi Kai,
Thank you so much for the comment. Sorry to not reply earlier – I really don’t get on here often!
I like the Dr. Seuss quote on your blog!
I’m glad the words I found have resonated with you. Where do you find support and sustenance to keep you through it.
Nice to see your commitment to vegetarianism. What do you think about veganism.
(Sorry for the confusing syntax, my keyboard has been switched to a French-recognition one and I can’t find where the question mark is hiding these days!)
J. Muir
Hi, J. Muir, I just found your reply today, and I rarely get on my blog either (even though I should)!
Well, what keeps me through it is my desire to write and pick up skills that are actually worth something. Writing is my favorite because it allows me to stray away from the cruelty of our world. I do find it hard sometimes to make it through some days, especially while I still live at home and have one more year of high school left.
But it’s sad that people cannot see the deceptions in our world, and kids my age are too obsessed with their cell phones and whatnot to care or even think about it.
And my thoughts on veganism…I absolutely would love, love to become a vegan. I plan on becoming one after I move out of my parent’s house because it would be almost impossible for me to become one right now. I actually try and eliminate as much dairy from my diet as I possibly can, and I absolutely am disgusted by eggs and cow milk.
I think it would be one of the most beneficial lifestyles because animal products don’t even digest well in our systems, and they’re so pasteurized and toxic filled that they’re even extra horrible for us. I, also, plan on making all my food from scratch when I get my own place and can buy all my own food.
My parents were not supportive at all when I went vegetarian almost 3 years ago. I’ve had to make all my own food every day since then, and they would put me down emotionally all the time. I don’t have a great relationship with them, but I don’t have to deal with it much longer after high school is over.
I don’t even see meat as food anymore, and it sickens me to my stomach that my parents once forced that stuff onto my plate (even when I didn’t want it when I was younger).

Kai,
Thanks for replying and for giving your perspective on things.
I really love writing too but I’ve slacked it off for something I’m better at: art. Have to follow my passion!
When I look back on how very difficult my high school years were, how lost and how close to the edge I was at times, I wonder why any sane adult would say “Those are the best years of your life!” Because in my experience, life opened up once all that awfulness – the popularity contests particularly – was finished. Now I’m 30 and wildly enjoying every moment of what I’ve made of my life since then, fully empowered and alive. So, I’m sending you courage and tenacity to get through it and get out!
It’s really great to hear that you are interested in veganism and if I can help in any way once you’re able to make that transition, please do let me know. There are so many amazing resources online for support, for nutritional information, recipes, etc., and I would be glad to help direct you to whatever you need to support you on that journey. I’m sorry that your parents aren’t supportive. You will certainly be happier once you move out!
I hope you have an inspiring summer and that your last year of high school is a merciful one!
J.
I know, right?
I gave up all the popularity and pleasing people when I was fifteen. I stopped wearing makeup, and I became much happier and realized that I didn’t give a damn what others thought of me. True friends stick around no matter what you look like. Most of the kids in my class are scared sh!tless to graduate, but for me, it can’t come fast enough. I wanted to graduate a year, that’s how bad I want out of there. But I just got a job, so things will go by fast, and I’m saving up for an apartment!
As soon as I’m about to turn vegan, which may be next year closer to when I graduate, I’ll definitely let you know. My one problem I have is trying to gain weight. I’m skinny to begin with, but my freshman year of high school (before I turned vegetarian) I lost 15 pounds for no reason. I know it’s not from being a vegetarian, but my mom likes to blame it on that. I know for a fact that it’s not from that because she was feeding me at the time, so it would actually be her fault.
And I love food! So I’m not anorexic or anything. I try to eat close to 2k calories a day; my goal is 2,500, but I find it really hard when I can’t buy my own food. It’s hard to gain weight in this society when everyone is so obsessed with losing weight. I know you may not be able to help me (since I am the only one who can motivate/change myself), but I just needed to rant that off. lol.
Have a good summer, too!
~Kai
Wow, I admire your perspective on things. Great that you are able to resist all the pressure and do what makes you happy for yourself.
I’m not any sort of authority on nutrition or weight gain but I know of some good people online that you could ask. I can see why it would be difficult to get good information about it, and why it would be frustrating when society just gives you “envy” for being thin. Many people do lose weight when switching to a vegan diet but on the other hand there are competing bodybuilders who are vegan, so it’s certainly possible to gain weight. In fact there are quite a number of vegan athletes who are posting their stories and lifestyles on the internet – they may be a good resource for you.
I never thought of that one, to search up vegan bodybuilders. Thanks for the tip. I will definitely check this one out!
